Ministry of Energy gets  Excellence in Leadership and Governance Award

The Ministry of Energy has been received the Excellence in Leadership and Governance Award of the Year at the 5th Ghana Energy Awards event in Accra.

The event in the energy sector calendar, bringing all players in the sector together to recognize individuals and corporate bodies whose efforts have played a critical role in the nation’s agenda of a robust, secure, affordable and stable energy sector.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, said I have no doubt in my mind that you will continue to scale greater heights in the coming years, and that the Ghana Energy Awards will rise to become the ultimate awards event in this country.”

Touching on the theme “Digitalised Energy Sector: The Key for a Resilient Economic Future,he said the sector’s Local Content E-Portal System allows for companies operating in the upstream petroleum industry to submit their local content plans and reports in real-time.

This, according to him, will enable the regulator to track the local content progress of the country and also assess local content compliance by companies in accordance with LI2204.

On the downstream petroleum, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh said the National Petroleum Authority’s  National Retail Outlet Fuel Monitoring System launched by the Vice President “makes it virtually impossible for OMCs to receive illegal fuel.”

“Under this digital system, NPA is able to monitor the fuel in the tanks of all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Ghana in real-time.

“This makes it virtually impossible for OMCs to receive illegal fuel from sources such as bunkering and smuggling activities in their tanks,” he stressed.

At the event, former President John Agyekum. Kufuor and late President Jerry John Rawlings were honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of their contribution to the development of Ghana’s energy sector. 

They each received a Citation and a portrait.  Ezanetor and Kimathy Rawlings received their father’s posthumous award. 

Mr. Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VRA and Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Deputy Managing Director of Tullow Ghana were adjudged the Energy Personality of the Year in the male and female category respectively.

Goil received the Energy Company of the Year Award (Petroleum division), and Bui Power Authority was awarded for Excellence in Power Generation.
