Snippets of information reaching indicates that some staff at the National Lottery Authority (NLA) are planning to stage a series of demonstrations to register their displeasure over what they describe as pure madness, greediness and illegality at the authority.

According to the staff, Mr. Ernest Mote, who is currently the acting Director-General, is occupying additional two portfolios at the authority for five months now.

The additional two portfolios Mr. Ernest Mote is occupying, gathered, including acting Director of Finance and General Manager, Management Accounting and Payroll.

“We are expecting nothing but misappropriation of the authority’s funds, conflict of interest and award of contracts to himself and friends. These are what we are expecting in the next couple of months under this one-man show administration.

“We first and foremost want to bring President Akufo-Addo’s attention to this development at the NLA. We are not happy at all. With this, the impression is created as though nobody is capable or qualified to take up these portfolios and discharge these responsibilities. This cannot be the case, we have more qualified persons here,” a credible source stressed.

It will be recalled that President Akufo-Addo instructed the Director-General of the authority, Kofi Osei Ameyaw to retire.

In a letter dated March 10, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, he said the one-year contract given to the former NPP MP for Asuogyaman expired on February 20, 2021.

Checks and double cross-checks at the NLA revealed that Mr. Ernest Mote was appointed as the acting Director-General soon after the exit of Mr. Osei Ameyaw to ensure continued running of the authority in the absence of the substantive Director-General.. further checks indicate Mr. Ernest Mote took up additional two portfolios after some days, which could have been occupied by other equally qualified personalities at the authority.

“What we are asking is that how many salaries is Mr. Ernest Mote receiving at the end of the month with these three portfolios? We need an answer to this question. Look he is not the only qualified individual here at the NLA,” was told.

“We are even more surprised why scores of qualified NPP supporters who assisted the party to come to power are sitting on the fence watching this madness to go on.

”Most of these party people have academic qualifications but no job and this man alone is occupying three positions with fat salaries and benefits,” they maintained.

The NLA staff is demanding the immediate removal of Mr. Ernest Mote, saying that “one man cannot occupy three portfolios and receive these salaries and benefits at the end of the month like this and watch others sitting at home not working at all.”
