Head of DETEC in Ghana for a working visit

Dr. Mattew Opoku Prempeh, Energy Minister and Head of DETEC, Simonetta Sommaruga

The head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) of Switzerland, Simonetta Sommaruga is in Ghana for a working visit and as part of her programme.

Ministers from Finance, Environment, Trade and Industry and Foreign Affairs also joined the meeting.

Dr. Mattew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Energy, at the meeting expressed appreciation to the Swiss government for their immense support to his Ministry, especially with projects under the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Ghana Scaling-up Renewable Energy Programme (SREP).

Under these two programmes, agencies such as ECG and NEDCo have benefitted as well as island and hard-to-reach communities, receiving off-grid and mini-grid power solutions.

It was a good deliberation, that set the tone for the collective signing of the roadmap agreement to implement other projects. It is my hope that Switzerland will continue to be a friend of Ghana’s, for our mutual benefit.
