Ghana Export Promotion Authority together with Africa Coconut Group in collaboration with PERD is organizing 1st International Coconut Festival from the 24th to 26th September at Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
To promote the programme, two great Ghanaian musicians have been selected to be the Ambassadors for Coconut produce in the country.
They are Okyeame Kwame and Kofi Kinaata.
This was announced at an unveiling ceremony and the official launch held at the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) head office in Accra.
The event, organised by African Coconut Group in partnership with GEPA, seeks to bring to the fore the importance of coconut to Ghanaians and how it can bring foreign exchange.
Total annual production of coconut in Ghana as at 2017 stood at approximately 229 million pieces of coconuts, equivalent to between 350 and 400 thousand metric tonnes.
Currently, Ghana sits 15th on the list of world major coconut producing countries, with annual production of 366,000 tonnes as at December 2018. It’s a $6 billion industry.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, Afua Asabea Asare, “the event is going to be a festival of all the things we can use coconut for.”
