The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, has presented two motorised mini refuse trucks (Borla Taxi) and 83 litter bins to the Municipal Environmental Health Office.
The items were distributed by the Ministry of Sanitation to MMDAs throughout the country.
The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly purchased the refuse trucks for effective disposal of the waste to be collected from the bins.
The litter bins, with stands and holders, will be placed at vantage points in the municipality.
The Borla Taxis will empty the bins weekly for proper disposals.
The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Mrs Mercy Quansah, in a short address, said she hoped the bins would go a long way in realising the vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
Presenting the items to the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mrs Patience Akasraku, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Patrick Kumor asked her outfit to monitor the bins and maintain the trucks.
He emphasised that the bins are not for residential use and urged residents to report people who dump their household refuse in them.
