The Concerned Voters Movement (CVM) President and Founder, Razak Kojo Opoku, is urging the New Patriotic Party (NPP) majority in parliament to review their decision to support 450-seated chamber construction.
To him, such decision has the potential to destroy the goodwill the party and government chalked in the 2016 elections.
“450-seater Chamber can cost the NPP in 2020 if the Parliamentary leadership refuse to listen to the voice of Ghanaians,” he posted on Facebook.
According to him, majority of Ghanaians “including myself are very upset with this 450-seater Parliamentary Chamber. Even 275 MPs are more than enough for Ghana.
“We are going into a crucial 2020 general elections, and all that our Parliamentary leadership want to tell us is a 450-seater Parliamentary Chamber?
Mr. Kojo Opoku questioned how many votes will this project attract to the NPP Government?
He suggested the $200 million meant for the construction of 450-seater new Parliamentary chamber should be used support “One District One Factory” project.
The amount, he added, should be used to build more senior high schools and expand infrastructure at the universities to absorb the first batch of free SHS graduates in 2020.
The $200 million, he said, should be used to support the NEIP, NABCO and “One Village One Dam” policy.
