Dagbon Peace: Dagombas need to embrace this wholeheartedly

As Ghana has been plunged into ecstasy over the historic peace achieved with respect to the seventeen year-old chieftancy crisis that hit Dagbon (Dagombas) in the Northern Region, a known and key Mahama boy has blasted the people over the conflict.

Mahama Haruna, after congratulating Dagombas for what he described as a new era of peace and unity, took them to the cleaners for killing themselves and beheading their kings. Mr. Mahama also revealed that while the Dagombas were engaged in that gory conflict, Gonjas, which he is part, were scheming in so many ways to overtake them (Dagombas).

In a Facebook post on his timeline, Mahama Haruna wrote;‘I wish to remind our brothers Dagombas that while they were fighting, killing each other and beheading their Kings, we Gonjas were scheming in so many fronts to overtake them and we succeeded in everything planned’’

Detailing the various steps adopted to subdue the Dagombas as they (Gonjas) climbed to the top, the key John Mahama boy wrote this;

‘First, one of our own became Vice-President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012 subsequently becoming President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017. It is clear Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni would have been the Vice-President of Ghana in 2009. It is also clear Alhaji Aliu Mahama would have been the NPP flagbearer in 2008 after J.A.kufour and subsequently President in 2012. But Ghana was not comfortable with any Dagomba’’

Continuing, Mahama Haruna said;‘As I talk, we Gonjas have our own Region called Savanna Region meaning we are independent of Dagombas forever…’’

Mr. Mahama would uncharitably and unpalatably remind the Dagombas of the successes chalked by Gonjas as a result of the conflict among the two gates. This is what he said;

‘Gonjas wouldn’t have chalked these successes if you were not fighting because it is clear you have the numbers in the whole of Northern Ghana’’

Mahama Haruna admonished Dagombas to embrace peace in order to take their rightful place in the scheme of things in Northern Ghana.

Years of conflicts between the Abudu and Andani gates have taken a toll on the developmental agenda of successive governments in Dagbon. The Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has worked tirelessly to achieve the peace we see today.

It is, therefore, unconscionable for this key actor in the affairs of former President Mahama to be attacking Dagombas in the manner that he did. If nothing at all, the people of Dagbon deserve commendation, not insults from no m ean a person than this solid ally of the former president.
